Jean Bizimana - Gen T.B.D. Reporting Fellow

Jean Biziman's passion in photography started at age of 8 when he became a member of Through the Eyes of Children, a Rwandan photography training program established in 2000 by David Jiranek and Kristin Ashburn. It's purpose was to familiarize Rwandan children with taking pictures to show the beauty of their country and people’s livelihoods. The photos were shown in U.S. exhibits and earned proceeds from print sales, which were then used to fund schooling for children in Rwanda. When Jean graduated from the program in 2010, he attended many workshops and exhibitions to meet other professional photographers. He has attended workshop at Kings College London in 2013, Canon Master and Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2015, and Goethe Institute and Institute France Rwanda in 2016. He says that photography made him look at life differently and realize there was an entirely different world out there. With photography, he’s seen that life can change in a flash no matter where you are. Jean is a documentary photographer and humanitarian focused on social issues around Africa. Professionally, he’s worked with local media houses and magazines like, Kigali TV, TV10, Creative Hills and The Service Mag and internationally, he is a Reuters correspondent based in Kigali, Rwanda.
